  • Nitrous Acid (HNO2): Chemical Formula and Properties
    Hydrogen nitrite doesn't exist as a stable compound. Here's why:

    * Nitrite ion (NO2-) is a negatively charged ion.

    * Hydrogen ion (H+) is a positively charged ion.

    These ions would readily react to form nitrous acid (HNO2), which is the actual compound that would exist in solution. The chemical formula for nitrous acid is HNO2.
