  • Discovery of the Electron: A Key Moment in Atomic History
The first part of the atom to be discovered was the electron.

This discovery was made by J.J. Thomson in 1897 through his experiments with cathode rays. He found that these rays were made up of negatively charged particles, much smaller than atoms, which he named electrons. This marked a significant shift in the understanding of the atom, as it showed that atoms were not indivisible, as previously believed.
