  • What is a Chemical Reaction? Definition & Examples
The rearranging of the chemical makeup of matter is called a chemical reaction.

    Here's why:

    * Chemical reactions involve the breaking and forming of chemical bonds between atoms and molecules. This changes the arrangement of atoms and the substances involved.

    * Physical changes only alter the appearance or state of matter, not the chemical composition.

For example, melting ice is a physical change, while burning wood is a chemical reaction.
