    The French chemist who discovered that air is a mixture of gases was Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier.

    He conducted experiments in the late 18th century using a sealed container and mercury to demonstrate that air is composed of different gases, including oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide.
