  • Chlorine and Hydrogen Peroxide: Understanding Bleaching Chemistry
The element that is combined with peroxide to form bleach is chlorine.

    Here's why:

    * Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), also known as bleach, is the most common type of household bleach. It is formed by combining chlorine with sodium hydroxide (lye) and water.

    * Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is another common bleaching agent, but it's typically used for more delicate fabrics or items.

    * Chlorine-based bleaches are more powerful and effective at removing stains and disinfecting, but they can be harsh on certain materials.

In summary, the combination of chlorine and peroxide is not what creates bleach. The common bleach we use is formed by combining chlorine with sodium hydroxide and water.
