  • How to Separate Iron Filings from Powdered Sugar: A Simple Guide
You can separate iron filings and powdered sugar using a magnet. Here's how:

    1. Place the mixture on a flat surface: Spread the mixture out on a sheet of paper or a tray.

    2. Hold a magnet above the mixture: Bring a strong magnet close to the surface of the mixture.

    3. Iron filings will be attracted: The iron filings will stick to the magnet, while the powdered sugar will remain on the surface.

    4. Lift the magnet: Slowly lift the magnet, and the iron filings will come with it.

    5. Repeat if necessary: If some iron filings remain, repeat steps 2-4 until you've separated all the iron filings.

This method works because iron is a ferromagnetic material, meaning it's strongly attracted to magnets. Sugar, on the other hand, is not magnetic.
