  • Flowers: Are They Compounds or Mixtures? A Simple Explanation
A flower is a compound mixture. Here's why:

    * Compound: A compound is a substance formed when two or more different elements are chemically combined. Water (H2O) is a compound because it's made of hydrogen and oxygen.

    * Mixture: A mixture is a combination of two or more substances where each substance retains its own properties. The substances in a mixture are not chemically bonded.

Flowers are made up of many different things:

    * Water: A large percentage of a flower is water.

    * Organic compounds: These include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and pigments like chlorophyll.

    * Minerals: These are absorbed from the soil.

    * Cellular structures: Flowers are made up of cells with various components like cell walls, membranes, and organelles.

Because flowers are made of multiple substances that are not chemically bonded, they are classified as a mixture.
