  • Aqueous Solutions: Understanding Solutes and Solvents
If the solvent is water, the solute is called an aqueous solution.

    Here's why:

    * Solvent: The substance that dissolves another substance, often present in a larger amount.

    * Solute: The substance that dissolves in the solvent, often present in a smaller amount.

    * Aqueous solution: A solution where water is the solvent.

For example, when you dissolve sugar in water, sugar is the solute and water is the solvent, and the resulting solution is called an aqueous sugar solution.
