* Halogens: The second to last column (Group 17) contains the halogens. They are nonmetals and exist as gases, liquids, and solids at room temperature. However, the lighter ones (fluorine and chlorine) are gases.
* Other Nonmetals: Many other nonmetals like nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen are also gases at room temperature and are found on the right side.
Important Note: The periodic table is organized by the element's properties. While gases are typically found on the right, there are some exceptions, like hydrogen, which sits on the left.
