  • NaNO3 in Water: Understanding its pH (Acidic, Basic, or Neutral)
NaNO3 (Sodium Nitrate) is neutral when dissolved in water. Here's why:

    * Strong Base and Strong Acid: Sodium Nitrate is formed from the reaction of a strong base (NaOH - Sodium Hydroxide) and a strong acid (HNO3 - Nitric Acid).

    * Salt Hydrolysis: When salts dissolve in water, they can sometimes undergo hydrolysis, meaning they react with water molecules to produce either H+ or OH- ions. However, salts formed from strong acids and strong bases do not undergo hydrolysis.

    * No Change in pH: Since there's no hydrolysis, the solution remains neutral with a pH close to 7.
