  • Understanding Elements: The Building Blocks of Matter
    Substances that cannot be broken down into any other substances by physical or chemical means are called elements.

    Here's why:

    * Physical means refer to changes in the form or appearance of a substance, like melting, freezing, or crushing. These changes don't alter the chemical composition of the substance.

    * Chemical means involve breaking and forming chemical bonds, resulting in the creation of new substances with different properties.

    Elements are the simplest form of matter. They are made up of only one type of atom, and they cannot be broken down further by any chemical reaction.

    Some examples of elements include:

    * Hydrogen (H)

    * Oxygen (O)

    * Carbon (C)

    * Gold (Au)

    * Iron (Fe)

    Everything around us is made up of these elements, either in their pure form or combined into compounds.
