    Protons and neutrons have a very close and important relationship within an atom:

    Location:

    * Protons reside in the atom's nucleus, the dense, positively charged center of the atom.

    * Neutrons also reside in the nucleus, alongside protons.

    Charge:

    * Neutrons are electrically neutral (no charge).

    Nuclear Stability:

    * The balance between protons and neutrons influences nuclear stability. Generally, a balance is needed to prevent the nucleus from becoming unstable and radioactive.
