  • Pure Water: Is It a Solution? | Chemistry Explained
Pure water is not classified as a solution. Here's why:

    * Solutions are homogeneous mixtures of two or more substances.

    * Pure water consists of only one substance: H₂O molecules.

    Think of it this way:

    * Solution: Like saltwater, where salt (solute) is dissolved in water (solvent).

    * Pure water: Like a single ingredient, there's nothing else mixed in.

While pure water is often used as a solvent to create solutions, it itself is not a solution.
