  • Alpha vs. Beta Particles: Understanding Charge Differences
Alpha particles are more highly charged than beta particles. Here's why:

    * Alpha particles consist of two protons and two neutrons, effectively a helium nucleus. This gives them a +2 charge.

    * Beta particles are either electrons (beta minus, -1 charge) or positrons (beta plus, +1 charge).

Therefore, alpha particles have a charge twice as large as the beta particles.
