  • Origin of Synthetic Detergents: Germany's Pioneering Role
    The first synthetic detergents were developed in Germany in the early 20th century.

    Specifically, the development of the first synthetic detergents is credited to Friedrich Bergius and Wilhelm Schmitt in 1916. They created a synthetic cleaning agent called "Nekal", which was based on sulfonated naphthalene and was initially used in the textile industry.
