  • Understanding Liquid Level Equilibrium: How Gravity Works
A liquid tends to seek its own level.

This is due to gravity. The force of gravity pulls equally on all parts of a liquid, causing it to spread out evenly until it reaches a stable equilibrium. This is why water in a glass will always settle to the same level, regardless of the shape of the glass.
