  • Metals in the Periodic Table: Location & Groups Explained
    The majority of metals are located on the left side and in the middle of the periodic table. Here's a breakdown:

    * Groups 1 and 2: These are the alkali metals and alkaline earth metals, respectively. All elements in these groups are metals.

    * Groups 3-12: These are the transition metals. They are all metals, with some exceptions like mercury (Hg) which is a liquid at room temperature.

    * Lanthanides and Actinides: These two rows at the bottom of the periodic table are all metals.

    Non-metals are mostly located on the right side of the periodic table. There are some exceptions, such as metalloids (sometimes called semimetals) which have properties of both metals and non-metals and lie along a diagonal line between metals and non-metals.
