  • Gunpowder Composition: Is It a Pure Substance?
    Gunpowder is not a pure substance. Here's why:

    * Mixtures: Gunpowder is a mixture of several different chemical compounds:

    * Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) - an oxidizer

    * Charcoal (C) - a fuel

    * Sulfur (S) - helps ignite the mixture

    * Variable Composition: The proportions of these components can vary in different types of gunpowder, resulting in different burning rates and power.

    In contrast, a pure substance consists of only one type of molecule or atom. Examples include water (H2O), gold (Au), or table salt (NaCl).
