  • Solid and Gas Mixtures: Examples & Types - Science Basics

    Solid Mixtures:

    * Sand and gravel: A common example found in construction.

    * Trail mix: A mixture of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit.

    * Concrete: A mixture of cement, sand, gravel, and water.

    * Granite: A naturally occurring mixture of quartz, feldspar, and mica.

    * Alloy: A mixture of two or more metals, like bronze (copper and tin).

    * Rock candy: A mixture of sugar crystals and water.

    * Plastic: A mixture of polymers and other additives.

    * Soil: A mixture of minerals, organic matter, and air.

    Gas Mixtures:

    * Air: The most common example, a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and other trace gases.

    * Natural gas: Primarily methane, but also contains ethane, propane, butane, and other hydrocarbons.

    * Smog: A mixture of pollutants like ozone, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter.

    * Refrigerant: A mixture of gases used for cooling, like Freon.

    * Helium-oxygen mixture: Used for deep sea diving to prevent decompression sickness.

    * Fuel gas: A mixture of various gases used for combustion, like propane and butane.

These are just a few examples, and there are many other solid and gas mixtures found in nature and created by humans.
