  • Chloroplasts: The Home of Chlorophyll - Structure & Function
Chlorophyll is contained within a structure called a chloroplast.

Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells, algae, and some bacteria. They are responsible for photosynthesis, the process by which light energy is converted into chemical energy in the form of sugars.

Within the chloroplast, chlorophyll is embedded in the membranes of thylakoids, which are stacked into structures called grana. This arrangement allows for efficient absorption of light energy and the conversion of that energy into chemical energy.
