  • Venus Composition: Rock vs. Gas - Understanding the Hottest Planet
Venus is mostly made of rock, not gas. It's a terrestrial planet, meaning it's primarily composed of solid materials like:

    * Iron: Makes up its core

    * Silicon: Forms the rocky mantle and crust

    * Other elements: Including magnesium, sulfur, calcium, and aluminum

While Venus does have an atmosphere, it's incredibly thick and dense, composed mostly of carbon dioxide (96.5%) with some nitrogen (3.5%). This atmosphere is what makes Venus the hottest planet in our solar system, trapping heat through a runaway greenhouse effect.

So, while Venus has a significant atmosphere, it's primarily a rocky planet, not a gas giant like Jupiter or Saturn.
