  • How to Speed Up Dissolving: 3 Effective Techniques
Here are three things you can do to get a substance to dissolve quicker:

    1. Increase the temperature: Heating the solvent (the liquid doing the dissolving) provides more energy to the molecules, making them move faster and break apart the solute (the substance being dissolved) more easily. Think of how sugar dissolves faster in hot tea than cold tea.

    2. Increase the surface area of the solute: Breaking the solute into smaller pieces exposes more of its surface to the solvent. This increases the contact area and allows the solvent to work on dissolving it more quickly. Imagine how a sugar cube dissolves more slowly than granulated sugar in the same amount of water.

    3. Stir or agitate the solution: Mixing the solution helps to bring fresh solvent into contact with the solute, and it prevents the dissolved solute from accumulating around the undissolved parts, which can slow down the process. This is why we stir coffee to dissolve the sugar faster.
