  • Chemical Bonding: Understanding Compounds and Their Formation
When two different substances combine by making chemical bonds, the result is a compound.

    Here's why:

    * Chemical bonds involve the sharing or transfer of electrons between atoms. This creates a new, distinct entity with properties different from the original substances.

    * Compounds are formed when two or more different elements are chemically bonded together in a fixed ratio.

    * Example: Sodium (Na) and Chlorine (Cl) are elements. When they react, they form Sodium Chloride (NaCl), commonly known as table salt. Salt has entirely different properties from sodium and chlorine.
