  • Silicate Minerals: The Most Abundant Group on Earth
The most abundant minerals belong to the silicate chemical group.

    Here's why:

    * Silicon and oxygen are the most abundant elements in the Earth's crust. Silicates are minerals composed primarily of silicon and oxygen, often with additional elements like aluminum, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, and others.

    * Silicates form a diverse range of minerals. This group includes common rocks like granite, basalt, sandstone, and shale, as well as minerals like quartz, feldspar, mica, and olivine.

    * Silicates are very stable. Their strong chemical bonds contribute to their durability and abundance in the Earth's crust.

While other mineral groups exist (like carbonates, oxides, sulfides, etc.), silicates dominate the Earth's mineral composition.
