  • Gold: Transition Metal or Halogen? Understanding its Properties
    Gold is a transition metal.

    Here's why:

    * Transition metals are elements located in groups 3-12 of the periodic table. They are characterized by having partially filled d orbitals in their atoms. Gold fits this definition.

    * Halogens are elements in group 17 of the periodic table. They are highly reactive nonmetals that form salts with metals. Gold is not a halogen.
