  • Sweet Tea: Homogeneous or Heterogeneous? Understanding Mixtures
    Sweet tea is actually an example of a homogeneous mixture. Here's why:

    * Homogeneous Mixture: A homogeneous mixture has a uniform composition throughout. This means that the components are evenly distributed and you can't easily distinguish them from each other.

    * Heterogeneous Mixture: A heterogeneous mixture has components that are not evenly distributed. You can usually see the different parts of the mixture.

    Sweet tea is a solution, which is a type of homogeneous mixture:

    * Sugar dissolves in water: When you add sugar to water, the sugar molecules become evenly distributed throughout the water.

    * Uniform Appearance: The resulting sweet tea has a consistent color, sweetness, and appearance throughout. You can't see the sugar particles anymore.

    Example of a Heterogeneous Mixture:

    * Sand and water: Sand and water don't mix evenly. The sand settles to the bottom, making it easy to see the different components.
