  • Understanding Atomic Structure: Protons and Electrons
An atom contains two types of charged particles:

    * Protons: These particles have a positive charge and are located in the atom's nucleus.

    * Electrons: These particles have a negative charge and orbit the nucleus in shells or orbitals.

It's important to note that the number of protons in an atom determines its atomic number and defines what element it is. The number of electrons in a neutral atom is equal to the number of protons, maintaining a balance of charges.
