  • The Atom's Nucleus: Structure, Composition, and Importance
The nucleus of an atom is found at the center of the atom. It contains:

    * Protons: Positively charged particles that determine the element's atomic number.

    * Neutrons: Neutrally charged particles that contribute to the atom's mass.

The nucleus is incredibly dense and contains almost all of the atom's mass. The electrons, which are negatively charged, orbit the nucleus in a cloud much larger than the nucleus itself.
