When the air temperature drops, the water vapor molecules in the air start to slow down and lose energy. As they lose energy, they move closer together and eventually form tiny water droplets. These droplets then collide with each other and grow larger until they become visible as water drops.
Water drops can also form when warm, moist air comes into contact with a cooler surface. This is what happens when you see water droplets forming on the outside of a cold glass of water. The water vapor in the air condenses on the cold glass and forms tiny water droplets.
Condensation is an important process in the water cycle. It is the process by which water vapor in the atmosphere is converted back into liquid water. Liquid water can then fall to the Earth as rain, snow, or sleet.
