  • Sulfur and Hydrogen Reaction: Identifying the Product (H2S)
If an atom of sulfur were allowed to react with hydrogen, the molecule that would form is hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless, flammable gas that has a strong, unpleasant odor. It is produced naturally by the decomposition of organic matter and is also found in volcanic gases. Hydrogen sulfide is a toxic gas and can cause respiratory problems and even death at high concentrations.
