    Ion exchange is a chemical process that involves the use of resin beads to remove salt from water. The resin beads are coated with ions that exchange with the salt ions in the water, resulting in softened and desalinated water.

    The choice of method for removing salt from water depends on several factors, including the volume of water being treated, the desired purity level, and the cost and availability of technology.
