  • Silver Chloride Precipitation: Color & Reaction Explained
When aqueous silver nitrate (AgNO$_3$) reacts with aqueous potassium chloride (KCl), the positively charged silver ions (Ag$^+$) and the negatively charged chloride ions (Cl$^-$) combine to form a solid precipitate of silver chloride (AgCl). Silver chloride is a light-sensitive, crystalline powder with a white or pale-yellow color. The formation of silver chloride can be represented by the following chemical equation:

    AgNO$_3$(aq) + KCl(aq) → AgCl(s) + KNO$_3$(aq)
