  • Sodium's Group 1 Membership: Electron Structure and Chemical Properties
Sodium has an electron structure of 1s²2s²2p⁶3s¹. This means that its outermost electron is in the 3s orbital. Elements in group 1 all have one electron in their outermost s orbital. This gives them similar chemical properties, such as high reactivity and a tendency to lose their outermost electron to form a positive ion.
