  • Understanding Carbon Structure in Disaccharides: Why No Penultimate Carbon?
In a disaccharide, there are two monosaccharides linked together. The penultimate carbon is the carbon atom next to the last carbon atom in a carbon chain. In a disaccharide, the last carbon atom of one monosaccharide is linked to the first carbon atom of the other monosaccharide. Therefore, there is no penultimate carbon in a disaccharide.
