Ether is a highly flammable and volatile solvent, and using suction filtration with ether can create a dangerous situation due to the risk of ignition. The suction applied during filtration can create static electricity, which can ignite the ether vapors. Additionally, ether vapors can form explosive peroxides upon exposure to air and light.
Instead of suction filtration, other methods such as gravity filtration or filtration using a Büchner funnel with a filter paper should be considered for solutions containing ether. These methods do not involve the use of suction and are therefore safer for flammable solvents like ether.
