  • Understanding Atomic Mass: Where Does It Reside?
    Most of the mass of an atom is in the nucleus, which is where the protons and neutrons are located. Protons and neutrons are both subatomic particles with mass, while electrons have very little mass in comparison. Electrons orbit the nucleus, but contribute very little to the overall mass of the atom.
