  • Convection: Understanding Heat Transfer in Fluids
The transfer of heat by movement of a gas or liquid is called convection. Convection occurs when a heated fluid (gas or liquid) rises and is replaced by cooler fluid, which in turn is heated and rises. This process creates a continuous cycle of heat transfer. Convection is the primary means of heat transfer in liquids and gases, and is also responsible for the formation of weather patterns on Earth.
