  • Hybridization of BO33: Understanding Boron's Bonding
BO3-3 is a borate ion, which has a trigonal planar molecular geometry. The boron atom is sp2 hybridised, with three equivalent sp2 hybrid orbitals forming sigma bonds with the three oxygen atoms. The remaining p orbital on the boron atom is empty and perpendicular to the plane of the three oxygen atoms.
