  • Citric Acid Cycle: Fate of Released Carbon Atoms
During the citric acid cycle, two carbon atoms removed as carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a waste product of cellular respiration. Each acetyl CoA, which enters the citric acid cycle carry two carbon atoms. During one revolution of the cycle, two molecules of CO2 are liberated. They carry the carbon atoms that entered acetyl CoA and those that originally were parts of other components of citrate molecule.
