Ammonium sulfate, (NH4)2SO4, is an ionic compound with a polyatomic cation, ammonium (NH4+), and a polyatomic anion, sulfate (SO42-). Both the ammonium and sulfate ions are composed of atoms from the same group: Group 15 (nitrogen family) and Group 16 (oxygen family), respectively.
