  • Understanding Liquid Properties: Volume & Shape
Liquids have a fixed volume but do not have a fixed shape.

The particles in a liquid are close together but not as close as they are in a solid. This allows the particles in a liquid to move around more easily, which is why liquids can flow. The particles in a liquid are also constantly moving, which is why liquids can take the shape of their container.

However, liquids do have a fixed volume. This is because the particles in a liquid are not able to move very far apart from each other. The particles in a liquid are held together by forces of attraction, which are stronger than the forces of repulsion. This is why liquids cannot be compressed very easily.
