  • Does Salt Prevent Fruit Rot? Understanding Preservation
No, salt does not prevent fruit from rotting. While salt does have certain preservative properties and is effective in preventing the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms, it is not effective against the enzymes that cause fruits to rot. These enzymes are released by the fruit itself as it ripens and breaks down the cell walls, causing it to soften, lose flavor and texture, and eventually rot. Salt cannot stop this natural process.
