    Dilute acid refers to an acidic solution that has been reduced in concentration by adding more water or another solvent. The term "dilute" indicates that the concentration of the acid has been lowered, making it less concentrated compared to its original form.

    When an acid is diluted, the amount of acid molecules or ions in a given volume of solution decreases, resulting in a lower acidity level. This process can be achieved by mixing the concentrated acid with a specific amount of water or solvent. The extent of dilution determines the final concentration of the acid solution.

    For example, if we start with a concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution and add water to it, we obtain a dilute hydrochloric acid solution. The original highly concentrated HCl solution contains a high concentration of hydrogen ions (H+), which gives it strong acidic properties. By adding water, we effectively reduce the number of H+ ions per unit volume, making the solution less acidic.

    Dilute acids are commonly used in various applications where a lower acidity level is required or preferred. They are safer to handle and less corrosive compared to concentrated acids, reducing the risk of accidents and damage to materials.

    It's important to note that diluting an acid should be done carefully, especially with highly concentrated acids, to avoid potential hazards. Always follow appropriate safety protocols when working with acids and ensure adequate ventilation to prevent inhalation of fumes.
