  • Atomic Charges: Understanding Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons
The relative charges of each part of an atom are as follows:

    - Protons: Protons have a positive charge (+1).

    - Neutrons: Neutrons have no charge (0).

    - Electrons: Electrons have a negative charge (-1).

The nucleus of an atom contains protons and neutrons, while electrons orbit the nucleus. The number of protons in an atom determines the element's identity, while the number of neutrons determines the isotope of that element. The number of electrons in an atom is equal to the number of protons, so that the atom is electrically neutral.
