  • Oxidation Numbers in Metals: Understanding Positive Charges
    Metals can only have positive oxidation numbers. Oxidation number represents the net charge an atom would have if all its electrons were removed. Since metals tend to lose electrons, their oxidation numbers are positive. Non-metals, on the other hand, can have both positive and negative oxidation numbers.
