  • Understanding Brønsted-Lowry Acids: Definitions and Examples
    Bronsted-Lowry acids are substances that donate protons (H+ ions) in a chemical reaction. The following are examples of Bronsted-Lowry acids:

    - Hydrochloric acid (HCl): In water, HCl donates a proton to form H3O+ (hydronium ion) and Cl- (chloride ion). HCl + H2O → H3O+ + Cl-

    - Sulfuric acid (H2SO4): In water, H2SO4 donates two protons to form two H3O+ ions and SO42- (sulfate ion). H2SO4 + 2H2O → 2H3O+ + SO42-

    - Acetic acid (CH3COOH): In water, CH3COOH donates a proton to form H3O+ and CH3COO- (acetate ion). CH3COOH + H2O → H3O+ + CH3COO-
