Chromium ore is typically found near the surface of the earth, so surface mining methods are often used to extract it. This can involve open-pit mining, where large pits are dug into the ground to expose the ore, or quarrying, where the ore is extracted from a solid rock face.
Underground mining
In some cases, chromium ore may be found deeper underground, requiring underground mining methods to be used. This can involve shaft mining, where a vertical shaft is dug into the ground to reach the ore, or room-and-pillar mining, where a network of tunnels is created underground to extract the ore while leaving pillars of rock in place to support the roof.
Extraction
Once the ore has been extracted from the ground, it is then processed to extract the chromium. This typically involves crushing the ore and then treating it with chemicals to dissolve the chromium compounds. The chromium is then further refined and purified to produce chromium metal.
