  • Compound Properties: Do Compounds Share Element Characteristics?
The statement "A compound has the same properties of elements that formed it" is false. When elements combine to form a compound, the properties of the compound are usually different from the properties of the individual elements. For example, when hydrogen and oxygen gases combine to form water, the properties of water (liquid at room temperature, boils at 100 degrees Celsius) are very different from the properties of hydrogen (gas at room temperature, boils at -252.879 degrees Celsius) and oxygen (gas at room temperature, boils at -182.962 degrees Celsius).
