1. Methanol
2. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) pellets
3. Analytical balance
4. Volumetric flask (250 mL)
5. Glass stirring rod
6. Safety goggles
7. Gloves
Procedure:
Step 1: Preparation of 0.1 N KOH Stock Solution
1. Weigh accurately 0.561 grams of potassium hydroxide pellets using an analytical balance.
2. Dissolve the KOH pellets in a small amount of methanol (approximately 10-15 mL) in a beaker.
3. Transfer the dissolved KOH solution into a 250 mL volumetric flask.
4. Add more methanol to the flask until the solution reaches the 250 mL mark.
5. Mix thoroughly by swirling the flask.
Step 2: Preparation of 0.002 N Methanolic KOH Solution
1. Transfer 10 mL of the prepared 0.1 N methanolic KOH stock solution into a 1000 mL volumetric flask.
2. Add methanol to the flask until the solution reaches the 1000 mL mark.
3. Mix thoroughly by swirling the flask.
Note:
- Be sure to handle the potassium hydroxide pellets with care, as they are corrosive and can cause burns to the skin.
- Wear safety goggles and gloves to protect yourself from any splashes or spills.
- Always prepare solutions in a well-ventilated area.
