Combining Carbon dioxide and water to make sugar is not a physical change. Sugar is a compound composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. Carbon dioxide contains carbon and oxygen atoms, and water contains hydrogen and oxygen atoms. For sugar to be formed, the CO2 and H20 molecules have to go through a series of chemical reactions. Thus, the reactants (CO2 and H20) are converted into the product (sugar). It is a chemical change.
